We are pleased to inform you that there was keen interest from clients in the Breakfast Seminar on “Tax Treaties in Laos” conducted on 1st March at the DFDL Vientiane Office. Fourteen participants including representatives from ANZ Bank, Phu Bia/Pan Australia, Asia Pacific Breweries, IFC and Milsearch attended the seminar.

Topics covered included:

  • Which countries have double tax treaties with Laos?
  • How does a tax treaty really work in practice?
  • How to know if you are entitled to relief or exemption under a tax treaty in Laos?
  • What income, profits and gains does tax relief and exemptions apply to under the tax treaties?
  • How to make a claim for a tax treaty benefit in Laos?

The information was presented by Jack Sheehan, Regional Director, Tax and Customs and Anna Zafirova, Tax and Legal Adviser. Senesakoune Sihanouvong, Country Partner and Tax and Legal Adviser, also participated in the seminar.

“The tax treaty network of Laos is rapidly expanding and the operation of these bilateral international agreements is not generally well understood by the international business community. We are very pleased to be able to provide our clients with this practical update” said Jack.

The Lao BU and the Tax BU regularly present Breakfast Seminars in Vientiane to select groups of clients focused on topics of high interest. The next seminar will be later in March and it will serve as the official launch of DFDL’s corporate secretarial services in Lao PDR.
