On 22 September 2022, DFDL Thailand and the European Association for Business and Commerce (“EABC”) co-hosted a breakfast briefing on Thailand’s newly enacted Personal Data Protection Act (“PDPA”) and what businesses must do to remain in compliance.
The seminar, titled “EABC Connects: Real World Experiences, Requirements and Misconceptions in PDPA Compliance,” provided a presentation on the importance of personal data, the concepts of the E.U’s General Data Protection Regulation, general misconceptions of the PDPA, and the history of how the PDPA law came about in Thailand.
The expert speakers included Kraisorn Rueangkul (Partner, DFDL) and Suriya Nachin (Head Legal Consultant; Head of PDPA Team, DPO Services Ltd.), and the moderator was Bob Fox (Chair of Digital Economy/ICT Working Group, EABC).
The experts discussed the different classifications of data, purposes for collection, data usage and the importance of consent and the rights to secure personal data. The seminar also covered general misconceptions or organizational gaps of PDPA compliance implementation in Thailand. The speakers also took part in an engaging Q&A session, answering audience questions about the scope of the law and how it affects businesses and market solutions being implemented in practice by operators in various sectors in Thailand.
