DFDL strengthens the Thai and Energy team with new Partner Audray Souche

To strengthen our Thai practice and regional Energy Mining and Infrastructure practice, we are delighted to inform you that Ms Audray Souche was promoted to Partner as of 1 January 2014.

Since returning to Thailand in September 2012, Audray has taken up the position of Deputy Managing Director of the Thailand Business Unit, managing our team of 30 Thai and expatriate lawyers. She also serves as the Deputy Head of the Regional Energy Mining and Infrastructure Practice Group and Head of the Clean Energy Division.

Drawing on more than 12 years’ experience in Southeast Asia, Audray is closely involved in projects in Thailand, Lao PDR, Vietnam, and Cambodia, combining a general commercial/foreign investment experience with a specialized experience on projects with State/public organizations. In particular, she has been heavily involved on energy and project finance projects, providing advice on major project finance deals.

Audray joined DFDL in 2004 and is a French trained legal adviser. She has also worked in DFDL’s Vientiane and Ho Chi Minh City offices and she speaks French, English, German and basic Thai.

“I have had the pleasure of working closely with Audray for nearly 10 years on many energy and finance projects in the region, as she has moved from our Laos office to Thailand to Vietnam and back to Thailand. My clients have always had the highest praise for her dedication to their projects, her diplomatic management of difficult issues, and her timely delivery of our legal services. She will be a great addition to the DFDL Partnership and I am proud to welcome her to the team.” David Doran, Partner and Chairman.

DFDL in Thailand

DFDL established a permanent presence in Bangkok in November 2005 to better serve its growing client base in Thailand, especially related to Thai-based financial institutions and businesses investing in Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, South Asia and Bangladesh. Since then, DFDL has expanded and established a real estate practice with offices in Samui and Phuket; a corporate and commercial practice group; an energy, mining and infrastructure practice, a tax practice and a labor law and commercial litigation and arbitration practice groups.

The Thai team works closely with our other offices across Asia to provide seamless and efficient international-standard legal and tax services, with an in-depth, personal knowledge of the local environment.

“A ‘pioneer firm in Laos’, DFDL is considered ‘the best available counsel for project finance’ in that country, but clients and peers alike praise the practice’s good breadth and ability to assist both sponsors and lenders on outbound investment projects in all the Mekong region. The team’s profile grew in 2013 with the arrival of Angus Mitchell from Canada, who now serves as managing director as well as head of the oil and gas division of the firm’s energy, mining and infrastructure practice group. The ‘very good and flexible’ David Doran ‘gets the deals done’.”

“DFDL’s strong regional footprint brings a steady flow of real estate acquisitions and development work, including construction litigation, to the ‘very knowledgeable’ Phuket-based ten-strong team. Clients highlight the firm’s ‘quick and prompt response’ and ‘good communication with local authorities’ and feature local developers, international investors, equity funds and high-net-worth individuals. Rashane Leerabandhu is noted for his expertise in the hospitality sector and recently advised Pioneer Global on its THB2bn acquisition of the Sofitel Silom (now Pullman) hotel in Bangkok.”
