“Towards a greener ASEAN Economic Community” published in the Investing in ASEAN guide, October 2013
DFDL once again contributed an article to the annual Investing in ASEAN guide, launched at the 23rd ASEAN Summit in Brunei earlier this month. The Summit had over 2,500 attendees including many world leaders and over 1,000 journalists.
David D. Doran, Partner and Chairman, and Matthew Christensen, Legal Assistant, authored the article “Towards a greener ASEAN Economic Community” in this year’s edition.
In the article, David and Matthew outline the fundamental role for renewable energy envisioned by ASEAN policymakers in order to diversify away from fossil fuel imports and utilize local resources to maintain socio-economic growth.
The article goes on to examine best-practice renewable energy policies of individual ASEAN members, and highlights how these nations are focusing on incentivizing the clean energy technologies that are most conducive to their unique geographical characteristics.“
Renewable energy as a primary component of total consumption is increasing within ASEAN at one of the fastest rates in the world. This is especially evident in the hydropower, geothermal, and biomass sectors,” commented David Doran.
