“DFDL Mekong boosts Vietnam practice with Freshfields key hire”
As DFDL expands, so does the need for strong and dedicated management. The board of DFDL Mekong has nominated Jérôme Buzenet as a new Partner of the firm, effective from January 1st, 2012.
Jérôme will act as Deputy Country Manager for Vietnam and bring his in-depth Vietnam legal expertise to reinforce the existing talented Vietnam team of DFDL led by Thierry Gougy.
Jérôme worked for major international law firms on high-profile transactions for over 10 years. He started his career in France in 1998 at Bureau Francis Lefebvre and also practiced at Linklaters. Prior to joining DFDL Mekong, Jérôme was a Counsel at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP’s Hanoi office, leading Freshfields’ capital markets practice for Vietnam and advising a number of leading international financial institutions between 2005 and 2011.
His clients are private equity and venture capital investors, financial services firms including investment banks, insurance companies and funds, and global corporations. His experience includes various high-profile M&A transactions and major securities/capital markets and investment fund matters, and a number of strategic investments, take-overs, leveraged buyouts, public to private transactions, structured divestitures and joint ventures.
Jérôme is recommended as a leading lawyer in Vietnam by Chambers, Legal 500 and IFLR 1000. He frequently presents at conferences in Vietnam and elsewhere in Asia on matters related to the Vietnamese capital markets and M&A. He is also a contributor to the legal committee of the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EUROCHAM) and the Capital Markets working group of the Vietnam Business Forum (consultative group, sponsored by the World Bank and the IFC, promoting reforms to the Vietnamese governmental authorities).
He qualified as a French Lawyer (Avocat) and studied at Oxford University (St Peter’s College LL.M program in English law). Prior to that, Jérôme obtained a postgraduate Master’s Degree in Business and Tax Law at La Sorbonne-Paris I University.
Jérôme Buzenet will bring a tremendous amount of leadership with an eye to further regional development and grow existing opportunities. This high-profile hire is a continuation of DFDL’s strategy to attract top quality internationally-trained attorneys. It also shows the firm’s dedication to grow its Vietnam capability and develop a cutting-edge regional practice.
