The BIR issued Revenue Memorandum Circular (“RMC”) No. 092-20 which extends the deadline for the registration of entities engaged in what the BIR considers as “digital transactions” to 30 September 2020. Taxpayers who meet the deadline are granted a BIR waiver on penalties imposable for late registration. The BIR also waived the imposition of penalties on the tax liabilities of taxpayers who have engaged in business without the benefit of tax registration if such taxpayers report and settle their taxes prior to 30 September 2020.
The BIR had previously issued RMC No. 06-20 in 1 June 2020 to incentivize taxpayers engaged in the sale of goods and services through the use of electronic platforms and media, and other digital means, to ensure that their businesses are registered pursuant to the provisions of Section 236 of the Tax Code. The original deadline was 31 July 2020. This was subsequently extended to 31 August 2020 by RMC No. 075-20 and then by RMC No. 092-20 as discussed above.
Through the above tax registration and compliance program, the BIR will issue a Certificate of Registration (“COR”) upon compliance with the following:
