On 5 May 2020, Nishant Choudhary (Partner and Myanmar Deputy Managing Director) participated in EuroCham Myanmar’s latest webinar with U Aung Naing Oo (Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations Permanent Secretary and Covid-19 Economic Recovery Committee Secretary) and EuroCham Myanmar Co-Chair members to discuss initiatives to support businesses in Myanmar amidst the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. This webinar was accessible to EuroCham Myanmar members. The live event was geared toward establishing a regular consultation platform between the Covid-19 Economic Recovery Committee and EuroCham Myanmar advocacy members. EuroCham members had the chance to learn more from U Aung Naing Oo on the government’s current measures to support businesses as well as the latest and hotly anticipated developments. EuroCham Myanmar members presented brief updates on their respective sectors: agro-business, digital initiatives, wines and spirits, energy, consumer goods, applied industrial technology, garments, logistics, construction, health and the automotive industry. Nishant presented during the legal and tax portion, sharing his insights and expertise on how to tackle the crisis by outlining new government measures in response to the pandemic and discussing the latest developments taking hold across the country. Nishant specifically highlighted the importance of e-signature, fintech liberalizations, ease by online tax filing and payment, facilitating liquidity by reducing the cost of financing (entailing reduction in stamp duty) and bilingual regulations.
