On 17 December 2024, the Ministry of Commerce (“MOC”) under the State Administration Council (“SAC”) issued a notification (“Notification“) permitting foreign companies to export eight specific product categories, either by manufacturing them directly or purchasing them from other manufacturers. These categories include processed meat, fish, and aquatic products; processed crops; various types of pulp and paper; seeds; refined ores; value-added semi-finished or finished products derived from raw fruits and horticultural materials; wood-based furniture items; and environmental conservation materials.
Under this Notification, foreign companies intending to export these products must adhere to stringent guidelines, including obtaining export licenses from the Department of Trade and securing specific recommendations from the relevant authorities for each product category, as outlined below.
By promoting these practices, the MOC aims to improve product quality, encourage sustainable production methods, and strengthen Myanmar’s position in international markets. The new Notification also revokes two earlier notifications: Notification No. 24/2019, issued on 6 June 2019, and Notification No. 48/2023, issued on 20 July 2023. This revocation reflects the MOC’s ongoing efforts to update and streamline regulations to better support the growth of Myanmar’s export sector. This initiative opens new opportunities for foreign companies to generate export earnings while contributing to Myanmar’s international trade expansion.
