Myanmar enacted its much-anticipated intellectual property laws in 2019, establishing a comprehensive framework for the protection of intellectual property (IP). The four key laws – the Trademark Law, Industrial Design Law, Copyright Law, and Patent Law – are now fully implemented. The Intellectual Property Department (IPD), operating under the Ministry of Commerce (MOC), is the primary authority responsible for the registration and protection of IP rights in Myanmar. The IPD was officially established on December 23, 2020.
