On 14 November 2019, William Greenlee (Partner, Myanmar Managing Director) and Bhawna Bakshi (Legal Adviser) participated in the ‘Arbitration in Myanmar’ seminar organized by Konrad Adenauer Stiftung and the Delegation of German Industry and Commerce in Myanmar, at the Rosegarden Hotel in Yangon.
During this morning event, the “Arbitration in Myanmar and other ASEAN Countries” guide was launched, one of the chapters of which was written by William Greenlee.
William and Bhawna also gave a presentation on ‘Arbitration Laws and Regulations in Myanmar’ and gave the attendees an overview of the Arbitration Law 2016. They explained the requirements of arbitration agreements, jurisdiction of the arbitral tribunal, the role of the arbitrator and court’s intervention.
To close the event, our experts joined the panel discussion to talk about new opportunities, remaining challenges and changing mindsets regarding Arbitration practices in Myanmar.
This morning seminar, thoroughly enjoyed by the audience, was an ideal opportunity to gain greater knowledge and more comprehensive understanding of the Myanmar Arbitration Law.
